Asheville is such a unique city to visit being nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains with a thriving culinary and brewery scene there is a little something for everyone, including kids! I’ve rounded up my favorite things to do in Asheville with kids and listed them here for you! These are in no particular order, but all are enjoyable for the entire family and most are central to the downtown area.

Hike

This is the best way to enjoy the BEST thing about Asheville… our beautiful mountains. Asheville and the surrounding areas have so many, breathtaking hikes that are kid friendly and enjoyable for the entire family. These hikes feature wildflowers in the spring, waterfalls and creeks to splash in through the summer and beautiful colors in the fall. Nature is the best playground for little ones and fresh air does everyone good. Here are a few of my favorite hikes in the area for kids: bear wallow, max patch, black balsalm, Dupont state forest,

The Biltmore House

Second to the mountains for something uniquely Asheville is the Biltmore Estate. The Biltmore Estate is family friendly in every way and kids of all ages will love it. There is of course touring the Biltmore House which has a self guided tour just for kids (my kids 4, 7 and 8 love this), hiking trails, the gardens and green house, a playground, a petting barn, ice cream, a candy shop and a toy store.

Explore Downtown

With something new to see around every corner exploring downtown Asheville is so much fun for kids. There of course are tons of fun places to eat and grab sweet treats. Our favorite places for treats are French Broad Chocolate Lounge, the double decker coffee bus, and Kilwins.  There is shopping at the Mast General Store with its vintage style barrels of candy and old fashioned toys as well as the Toy Store, Curio. On Friday evenings at Pritchard Park stop by and dance to the music at the drum circle and on those hot summer days stop by Splashville, Asheville’s downtown waterpad located in Pack Square. Lastly, stop into the Asheville Museum of Science for some awesome interactive exhibits.

LaZoom Kid’s Comedy Tour

A history lesson and comedy show in one while riding the big purple bus all around Asevhille.  Lazoom’s little boogers tour is the perfect activity for the 5-12 year crowd. The bus departs from downtown Asheville and the tour is approximately 60 minutes long

Adventure Center of Asheville

Outdoor fun for the entire family just minutes from downtown Asheville featuring: The Treetops Adventure Park (an aerial challenge course), and KidZip ( a zipline adventure for kids 4-10 years old). If you are visiting in the month of October the Adventure Center turns into a haunted trail for kids ages 3-12 and is a local favorite Halloween activity.
